Reiter Report - 12/29/05 06:28 PM

Today's Seattle Times said 50-60 fish caught at Reiter on Tuesday. Sounds like a lot to me; anyone there Tuesday who can confirm?

Re: Reiter Report - 12/29/05 06:30 PM

I've heard this is correct from a couple of guys.

Without looking at that article I can tell you who the Times is quoting. \:\) The story that he tells is usually quite a bit more optimistic than reality.

Re: Reiter Report - 12/29/05 09:56 PM

I heard from a buddy that fished today and it was asses and elbows the worst he's ever seen it. Said it was worst than blue creek, but saw a ton of fish caught and limited himself fairly quickly going 2-4.

Re: Reiter Report - 12/29/05 10:42 PM

I was there on Tuesday and counted over 20 fish hanging in the trees as I walked out at 9:30 AM with a limmit. I'm sure by the end of the day there were 50 - 60 fish caught.

Cheers!

got a call on the cell tuesday before 9am, I was told to get up there pronto. didn't though, not much for banking it in the combat zones, maybe if I were 30 years younger!

Any More recent reports?

Re: Reiter Report - 12/30/05 01:22 AM

Yeah, there are a bunch of other rivers producing a handful of fish that you dont have to stand belt buckle to belt buckle sizing up other guys to catch! hah.. Sounds like a hot place to be.. I'm sure if you get there tomorrow, you shoulda been there today! I hate following hot reports.. Almost have to be there that day and find out for yourself! I've found that people that follow hot reports usually end up chasing fish that WERE there before they all got caught! =) \:D \:D

Re: Reiter Report - 12/30/05 01:50 AM

I find it funny how people say every year Reiter is more crowded than ever. I fished pretty hard during the winter in the late 80's when I was going to college. I went during the week and weekends depending on time of year and conditions. Since then I've gone off and on. Some years 8 or 9 times other years none. I always time it for what I think is "peak" time so I know the crowds are there. In my observations the crowds are the same. Hell, I even see some of the same people I saw in the 80's. On weeks like this week, there were and will be people in line at 5:00 am or earlier. There was and always will be people who come in at sunrise and wonder why they can't find a spot. There will also be guys who walk in at sunrise and get a prime spot because the guy who was standing there limited in 20 minutes. And I have no doubt that 50 fish were caught those days this week. Especially if you add up fish released and fish caught on the HWY 2 side.

Last thing. I haven't been up there this year yet. I did go a few times last December at what I condsider "peak" days. Yes it was crowded. But I saw no problems. If someone got hung up it was "sorry etc". I can also tell you it was more crowded that week on Thursday and Friday than on Saturday. I was actually amazed after the amount of fish hit that Friday, that by 9:00 am (Saturday), you could actually move to another spot because people had limited and not an equal # of people had come in to take their spots.

To me, Reiter is just one of the many spots I know and fish. I go to Reiter I think people and lots of fish. I go to other spots, I think solitude. They all serve a purpose.

Re: Reiter Report - 12/30/05 01:37 PM

fished it thurs. morning and went 3 for 6 by 10:30am. Saw many fish caught, but not as good as tues. and Wed. from what I heard from others. Quite a few limits taken and I would say by 10:30 I probably saw approx. 25 landed. It was crowded, but 10 to 15 ft. between guys if you didn't crowd in right at the creek mouth. Very tolerable and fun to see a lot of action!

Re: Reiter Report - 12/30/05 03:40 PM

While fifty guys is more than I want to fish with (by about thirty-five guys!), folks who have fished more than five years will tell you that fifty guys is chicken scratch for Reiter.

Back in the '80's and '90's, up to about '95, it wasn't unusual to see the parking lot full, with cars parked up the driveway damn near back out to Reiter Rd., and another thirty trucks on the highway side.

There were people arsehole to elbow from the tailout to the pipe, and that's about 400 yards...plus another couple dozen down on the Cable Hole just below Reiter.

'Course, those 200 guys were fishing over 1200 fish every day, rather than the 75 or so fish that are there now...

Ten to fifteen feet between guys? Man, back in the day there would have been two or three more guys between everyone there now...and guys casting over each other's shoulders as they piled on at the creek three or four deep.

As far as crowds go, now is "the good ol' days"!

Fish on...

What's the show now at Reiter? Is it a still a bobber show, or is it back to drift fishing terminal gear?

I'd fish Reiter now. Would sure beat sitting here at work.

Parker,

I haven't been there in just over two years, but two years ago, it looked like Lk. Washington during Sea Fair.

One of the most classic pieces of driftfishing water in the state, and not a square foot of it free of a float...

Fish on...

I blame that Vedder character. Writes a couple of "How To Use Training Wheels For Dummies" books and now *everyone* and their dog is using those training wheels.

Now, don't be angry because Dave is smarter than you are. ;\)

Re: Reiter Report - 12/30/05 06:14 PM

Vedder might have started the float craze here, but I bet you go down to Reiter this weekend and most of those foats will be sporting pw's instead of jigs because of this board. Wait a minute........who started the pw posts on this board.......might have been the same guy who started the float craze. ;\)

I'd like to see an article on how well left over mac and cheese wrapped in gauze under a float with a giant marshmellow stuck on top with a toothpic works, then when it's too crowded to fish we could entertain ourselves watching who's using the board.

Re: Reiter Report - 12/30/05 08:31 PM

When I was up there last year it was a mixture of float fishing & bottom bouncing as well as spoons. I saw a number of guys with 2 rods. 1 for bottom bouncing, 1 for float fishing.
Posted by: Rafterman

Re: Reiter Report - 12/30/05 08:39 PM

I sometimes carry as many as 3 rods. One rigged with a float, one rigged with a spoon, and one rigged for driftfishing.
It truly is a sickness.....

Fished reiter today saw maybe 15-20 fish all day both sides. Pretty tough fishing if you ask me.
