Cool.
The scope is mounted a long ways back based on my 700 experience.

Re: 7Hundo - 01/27/20 11:03 AM

Yeah - that eye relief is like, non-existent. Maybe that's why they call it eye relief, because it relieves one of their eye.

Re: 7Hundo - 01/27/20 11:27 AM

Very nice, except for the rather puzzling glass mounting as noted by the ODFW.

IIRC, the older 700's in .223 were a 12-twist spout for swatting small game with light/zippy bullets. If so, you don't have adequate rpm for higher BC pills that really make that caliber shine brightly. Could always rebarrel to a 7-twist to make a good thing even better.

Every 700 should get The Fix

Re: 7Hundo - 01/29/20 08:29 AM

Nice 700. I had one that looked like that and was heavy. So, I put a Mcmillan on it. As it's a 7mm RemMag, the bitch kicks like a mule now and is not all that pleasant to shoot. It's got a great trigger and is accurate, though. Fixed 6x42 Loopy optic on it with an M1 reticle for distance. Clear, clean and KISS. The more I used variable scopes, the more I don't care for them. Guess my sniper days are over. rofl

Hey driftin' - did you get "the fix" for the 700 that is in my possession now?
Posted by: 5 * General Evo

Re: 7Hundo - 01/29/20 02:52 PM

it was built as a bench rest rifle, and used in tournaments and some won with it...

im going to do the opposite and use it everywhere...

the scope is perfect for my frame, what might be happening is its looking weird because the scope is so damn long, its a 1980s made in Japan Tasco target scope... glass is remarkably clear and sharp...

not sure what the barrel is Driftin, i know its a Remington, but i dont know if its a newer one or what, im going to run 55s, 62s and i got 1 box of 73 ELD match rounds, if they dont work out, ill spray them out in the MPR...

the gun itself is pretty heavy, and at first i was going to buy a MagPul stock for it, till i saw what was going on with the one on it, so im probably going to just keep it as is for now...

its mainly for Katie to run while im shooting my 6.5, so she doesnt just sit there doing nothing, shes not really a shooter tho, and gets scared, but this thing should sit still pretty damn good, its 10+ pounds easily.... ill have her hitting the 300 yard plates this weekend, mark my words....

Nope. Drop the bolt into a USPS Flat Rate box with a PMO and address it to Greg as noted. He'll take care of you, making a good thing even better....

'Course, there's not much point to it if you don't carry it in the fall....

1) Insert cleaning rod with a brass patch loop from bolt end, using a bore guide if you've got one, and push it out the muzzle.
2) Insert appropriate .22 patch into loop.
3) Pull rod back so that patch is about 2" into the muzzle end of the bore.
4) Take a Sharpie and dot the rod at TDC where it's at the end of the bore guide or plumb below the aft end of the action.
5) Pull the rod back out until the mark/dot on the rod rotates back to TDC and stop pulling.
6) Measure from the point of beginning to where your mark now sits.

Captain Obvious will now know the twist rate for 1 full revolution of the rifling. I'm betting your OEM 700 spout will yield 12". If so, your svelte ELD's will sadly lack the requisite rpm's to keep them from tumbling out yonder so don't even try.

Re: 7Hundo - 01/31/20 03:37 PM

sh!tty 55 grainer Frontier rounds shot great... Sig 62 did alright, about 1 moa, the 55s were sub moa all day...

after about 15 rounds had Katie drilling the 300 yard plate... she did well honestly... not perfect, but well, for someone that has shot 1 rifle (5 rounds) in the 14 years ive been with her....

forgot i had some Aguila 55s in the other box, otherwise i would have ran them, was really trying not to forget to accidentally put 5.56 in the .223, need to get another can and designate it for .223 only...

gonna grab a box of 40s and some Black Hills 55gr and see what they do...

as usual the Kreedmire knocked the sh!t out of the plate at 300, round after round...

was a really cool day on the base today, on both sides ( range 14 and 16) a couple truck loads of soldiers were doing full auto fire on the ranges, about 75 of them at once on each side... sounded like firecrackers going off...

then behind us, the Apache's were doing missile/rocket drills out back... cool sh!t...

That sounds fun as fvck!

Re: 7Hundo - 01/31/20 03:44 PM

oh yeah, i absolutely do not care for that scope at all... i mean it has its purpose, which is benchrest shooting, 1 distance, 1 zero, ect...

ive gotten so used to hash marks and whatnot that i just dont like fine wire hairs anymore... im still effective with it, i just dont care for it anymore...

may put it on the .22, may sell it, not sure... probably will go with an SWFA variable, or a Athlon variable for the 700...

who knows...

Re: 7Hundo - 01/31/20 04:19 PM

What's the max public distance down there?
Posted by: 5 * General Evo

Re: 7Hundo - 01/31/20 05:14 PM

Range 15 is the only public range, the plates are at like 297 but you can squeak out about 310 with a target...

rifle side is 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, pistol side is 10, 25, and 50...

Tacoma Sportsmans is 200 max, but they have 600 yard shoots at the end of every month, seriously thinking about entering one this month but need to run some ammo testing off a solid rest first, right now im just having fun...

Paul Bunyan is 600 max, but you have to pay a ridiculous initiation fee, be a member of the NRA, and pay yearly dues, as well as attend meetings, and other sh!t...

same thing with the Upper Nisqually Gun Club, but they have 600 yard shoots and anyone can enter if i remember right...

Re: 7Hundo - 01/31/20 06:12 PM

Anywhere have a 75 yard rifle that you know of? I can always go to the woods, but it would be nice to be under a roof.

Have fun shootin'.
Posted by: 5 * General Evo

Re: 7Hundo - 01/31/20 06:20 PM

If you use a target that doesn't go in the post holes, you can literally shoot any distance you want... Like 75.13 yards or 101.5....
Posted by: NickD90

Re: 7Hundo - 01/31/20 07:27 PM

Oh nice - that'll work. Thanks,
Posted by: NickD90

Re: 7Hundo - 02/01/20 09:45 AM

Thanks. I've been shooting at Kenmore some, but they won't allow any tweener shots. 50 / 100 only. Master Hunter muzzy quals are at 75 yards off the bench and 50 yards offhand, hence my ask. Cheers,

Re: 7Hundo - 02/01/20 11:47 AM

cant you just sight it in at 50, then go like 1/2 inch high at 75?
Posted by: NickD90

Re: 7Hundo - 02/01/20 03:20 PM

Yes - it's already dialed. BUT you have to shoot specific B3 paper targets at both 50 and 75 yards. If I don't qual in the woods, I'd need a place that will allow me to take 75 yard shots, not just 50 or 100. Being nice, Kenmore is not exactly "user friendly and flexible".

Re: 7Hundo - 02/02/20 12:17 PM

Hey Nick ... and others ... You could always come down here and go shoot at Pe Ell. www.plsportsmensclub.com Probably be limited to like three guests at a time but if you'd like, I'd be happy to have you tag along. Probably be best after the 20th of this month.

Not exactly sure, but something like 16 covered benches. Bring your own target stands and targets and set them up at whatever distance you like. Rinfire rifles and pistols as well as any certerfire pistols or revolvers are all good down this a way.

Sorry, but no .50 BMG rounds allowed. Plenty safe but we've found that people just cannot resits trying to dismantle all the metal frame work, piece by piece, on the target rails that hold the Highpower Rifle Silhouette targets. So, predictably, we had to put the kibosh on that opportunity.

Club also has a variety of steel gongs hanging at ranges from 200 to 500 meters capable of handling just about any centerfire rifle cartridge. Two large wood furnaces for cold days. Gotta bring a few sticks of your own wood though.

So yeah, you wanna go shoot at big targets up close or small targets 550 yards away, I'd be happy to take ya.

HOLY SMOKES (pun intended!), a BB sighting!! Howdy old-wise-one, I hope all is well!
Posted by: NickD90

Re: 7Hundo - 02/02/20 04:42 PM

That's a very kind offer BB - thank you and I may just take you up on that. I went to their website and read the range rules, which seem pretty good and reasonable! Seems like a good place to spend an afternoon with good company.

Before last elk season, I wanted to swap out my factory muzzy sights with a higher-end peep, but one of the parts was on back order for 6 months. So I hunted with my factory sights, which are pretty good....but not near as nice, easy and accurate as the upgraded peep. I just got the backordered part, so I need to get em' mounted up and in action soon.

Re: 7Hundo - 02/12/20 09:13 AM

So if I read this correctly the anti gun, King County 206ers that do the voting for our state can't shoot at their own place so they are looking to the 360 to do their sniping.

Re: 7Hundo - 02/12/20 09:59 AM

Not that it's any better, but I'm semi rural 425 thankyouverymuch. It's not a far drive for me to reach my secret spots up in the forest.

I'm actually surprised there are ANY remaining outdoor ranges in King and Snoho. Big, evil scary guns that go boom and scare me and my poor mini poodle. These racist, facists are harming bald eagles and killer whales with their lead pollution! Think of the children! RAPE!!!

Re: 7Hundo - 02/12/20 02:52 PM

I wish! I'm exactly one mile from a legal shooting zone. That's not to say I haven't let a small caliber or two fly around here when needed, but the snowflake neighbors would piss themselves if'n I touched off the big stuff. 2Many kids and horses in these here parts.

Guy who says hundo instead of hundred,
Jack ass or irredeemable jack ass, lets start a poll...
lol

Good luck on the rifle I’d put the nicest vortex optics on it I could afford and find what the gun likes to shoot best. Good ammo always makes a huge difference and good ammo will get harder to find unfortunately.
Love me some .223 shooting one of the rifles I learned to shoot with my dad. Good luck

Re: 7Hundo - 01/08/21 02:37 PM

ended up yanking the SWFA off the HMR as i bought a Diamonback Tactical 6-24X50.. tad of a fiasco, first one was broken, parallax was worthless, and wouldnt hold a zero, so i took it back and they gave me another one... almost bought a Strike Eagle but it was a 34 MM tube and i didnt feel like spending 150 bucks on rings for it...

anyways, that left me with the SWFA 16X sitting in a box, so i bought a EGW 20 MOA rail, and some SWFA SS-Tac rings like i have on the Bergara (love those rings), and slapped it on there... i have enough clearance to clear a 56 MM bell with the medium rings if i choose, but i think this will be just fine.. atleast there is hash marks now and not just a fine wire...

still need to get a scope for the 700 .300 Mag, but with the ammo shortage, not really in a hurry, i only have like 50 rounds for it anyways...

might put a SE 5-25X56 on it, there is also a Crimson Trace 5-25X56 on sale at both Bass Pro, and Midway, except Midway is 499 and BP is 699... like i said, not in a rush, ammo shortage...
