Also, your education numbers are interesting in that college experienced civilians to DOD is 45/10. Yet HS diploma civilian/DOD is 73/100. And why is that relevant to why kids join?

And did you consider that most DOD enlistees join right out of HS thereby not having an opportunity to attend college? Plus given the increased optempo of the last decade the opportunity to attend college while on active duty are slim.

Hmmm, I've looked at many, many resumes from retired miltary in the IT industry and NO ONE has ever, ever put their ASVAB score in their resume. After 20+ years of experience why would that score be relevant now? That score simply gives insight to the educational experience a kid has had PRIOR to formal military training; what he/she learned in HS.

I worked with 100's of them ,I have 8 in my family ,not impressed. I know a little mexican guy that does some work for me and others here in town that I would stack up against anyone. All rates can achieve the (SW) designation. If you really knew anything and actually had hired them, you'd know it stands for SURFACE WARFARE qualified. Getting the qualification is no easy task since it means they have studied, have been instructed and were tested to know all shipboard combat operations and can operate systems during combat they they aren't rated for. It's cross training that is invaluable to the Navy and it is one item a prior Navy applicant would share with a civilian employer. You're so full of crap.

As for SGM, teehee, he is not Navy. That stands for Sargeant Major. An Army E-9, who makes a drill sargeant look like a girl scout.

Once a person enters their "A" or "C" school, the ASVAB is no longer applicable. If you score high enough for your rating, that itself tells anyone else that you're qualified.

Steelworkers.... You're such a liar. There IS a rating for SW in the Navy. A CB (SeaBee=Construction Battalion) rating no less. We have several pals who were Steelworkers in the SeaBees and it's the reason I asked the question I did. Because it's simple to look up Navy ratings online, but if you truly don't have the knowledge, you can't fake it.

Could it be said that people go directly to college because their job prospects are also low? Duh.. People go in form many reasons. I can tell you that in boot when you get to the company where you will do your BIT just about the first question the drill asks is, "why are you here?". I'd say a good 90% say college, how many actaully go ???? I can also tell you that for me I was glad I waited to go to college and that the GI Bill was a great asset. If I would have went right out of HS would have been a waste of time and money. I think that the maturity level and understanding of what you really want to do with your education for those who serve first is better than most going right out of high school. Too many frat boys that needed some good a$$ kickin's and a few little lesson's on respect, that was the free part of their 'higher education'.
