Kidney Stones?

This morning I had some sort of procedure where they blast a stone into little pieces so that it's small enough to pass. Well, they had to insert some sort of device into my pecker to go seek and destroy the little bastard.
Here's my question. Have any of you had this procedure and if so how long will it take until I stop feeling like I'm pissing broken glass every time I take a leak?
Yes, this is a serious question. If there's ever a "next time" where I have to chose how to get rid of one of these damn things I'm going to opt for lethal injection!

That pretty much describes it. I'll tell you what they told me. "Could be a day or two, or it could be a week or two." In my case it was over in two pathetic days. I feel for ya dude. Hopefully it's over soon. When you pass it it will be INSTANT relief. Until then be sure to wash your pain meds down with whiskey. Did you end up[ playing this weekend?

The thing they stuck up inside into and past your bladder is a shunt to keep the "line" open into your bladder so the pieces of the stone will pass. Most of your pain while pissing is from the procedure to install the shunt--- not much of a hole to install it. There is a string hanging in your bladder that they will grab and pull the shunt out in a fun little Dr. visit. Women that have given birth and also had a kidney stone say that the stone hurts worse. My sympathies.

Wntrrn, I feel your pain. I just had my second major kidney stone attack last week. I passed one last week and still have a huge one to be dealt with. Six years ago I had three stones. Passed one and had two blasted. The downside was having to pass all the little stones after they are blasted. You decribed it right on the broken glass thing. I had a shunt put in also. The line on it looked like Maxima UG. When I first looked at it, the damn thing was dragging on the floor. I asked the nurse to shorted up my leader for me. Pissing was very painful. When I went to have the shunt removed, I asked the doctor if he was going to numb me up. He said sure. Next thing I know he pulls the rip cord. I'm like WTF. Extremely painful. I pissed blood for a number of days.
One other thing about kidney stones. Don't have a major attack on a Saturday night. I spend three hours in the ER before I could get a shot of delodid to put me out of my misery. People use the ER like it is there family doctors office. Also, percocet sucks for pain relief. When you have stones, get the good stuff. Don't go hunting elephants with a pee shooter, which percocet is. Good luck, Brian

The stone I had was 5mm(3/16) x 10mm(3/8), it moved around so they couldn't blast it with sound the first two times so they treaded a camera and then the laser through the only hole available and blasted it. I was awake enough to hear the Dr. say to one of the nurses " Grab his penis and don"t let it go!"

I was awake enough to hear the Dr. say to one of the nurses " Grab his penis and don"t let it go!" Well, a new day and a new outlook toward life. They did the camera thing but didn't have to place a shunt to allow things to flow. Thank god for having an abnormally large.... never mind For the past few weeks me and the Dr had been trying to figure out what the pain was from (stomach area). I saw family practitioner Wed, CAT scan Thurs, Urologist Friday, and then Friday afternoon on my to Canada to play in a soccer tourney the urologist calls and says we need to get this thing out Monday morning. "Can't we just do it Tuesday or next week"? He's like, "you're kidding me right"? I will say the men that were on the team had a hard time complaining about a nick here or strain there 'cause their wives would have called them a bunch of sissies knowing what their goalie (me) was going thru between the pipes. I've had a few different operations and many other injuries but this was the most painful thing I'd ever experienced. So on to yesterday. After the operation I passed about a gallon of blood yesterday along with a couple panes of glass and today life is good. Before going in for the procedure my buddy suggested I write "HANDLE W/CARE" on the little feller but "he'd" gone into hiding knowing what was about to happen to "him". Drink lots of water. Lesson learned (maybe).

When I pissed I kind of felt like Kraemer in that Seinfeld episode where he passes a kidney stone at Yankee Stadium.

I always though kidney stones were mostly the result of diet choices. The guys that I know that got them ate a ton of McDonalds and Mountain Dew. Not enough leafy greens, veggies, and water. Brian - who the hell did you piss off in a former life to get that many stones???? Ugh. That *HAS* to be genetic. OTOH, when I said "leafy greens", I didn't mean the kinda you smoke! Either way, this thread was awesome. Never had a kidney stone and I never want one! I'd say I feel your pain, but I have not. Closest I've come to is having my 'nads snipped....and that wasn't all that bad.

I had them once, they are bad....real bad, I don't want them again.
Diet choices?...not sure, I had been up to Yakutat for a week and not taking care of myself, no water, little food, less sleep...got home and the lower back pain started, then got worse...then got worse, I called the hospital not knowing what the hell was going on, they said get your ass in here...not sure how I drove myself to the hospital but I did, they asked "what level of pain, 1 to 10?" I said a good honest 8, I figured I was still standing so it could be worse, 15 minutes later I was curled up on the floor in the fetal position puking on some chicks shoes and trying to mutter something about "hitting 10" when they finally took me to a room, 30 to 40 of the most brutal minutes of my life..(broken bones are easy) before the doc could see me...he finally authorized morphine, if there is a god, he is responsible for morphine! ahhhhhhhhhhh.
Pissing it out was not a problem, it's the run from the kidney to the bladder that is the bitch.
last year I took a bottle of pills with when I went fishing up north, you know...just in case, Sol ate them all.
The E.R nurse did say she had had a baby and had kidney stones, yup, she said the stones were worse.
I hate kidney stones.

Parker, Getting your nads cut is childs play compared to kidney stones. I know from experience. You'll know to if you ever have an KS attack. Think male childbirth with a pair of vice grips on your nuts. My dad also had a problem with them and I was told by a urologist that they can be hereditary. I'm the spitting image of him so go figure. Another cause of stones are dehydration and dairy products. All of my stones have been calcium based. I drink lots of water now and try to avoid cheese, milk etc. I know it ain't Micky D's causing these. I've been on a big health kick and have dropped 55 lbs over the past few years. I also making sure I get plenty of my greens Stam, You are correct. When they finally give you the shot to put you in the twilight zone, you know there is a god. Brian
