If it's legal that's cool...I guess from this area, we are'nt used to getting a chance to shoot (2) really nice bucks in the same trip....

Seems strange to me that some people confuse legistlation with ethics or morals...

Having said that, I still don't mind the guys in the picture killing a few deer.

One by-product of that photo is possably showing that big whitetail bucks are not the toughest big game in north america to bag.

I would guess that that pile of deer did not come hard.

Show me a pile of blacktails like that, from anytime...anywhere, blacktails may not be the coolest but a truly big blacktail in the brush IS the toughest....I know, I never got one and lord knows I tried.

If you want to do a Sept trophy blacktail hunt on Kodiak and catch silvers and Halibut in 60 to 120' of water on what feels like a lake let me know.

Blacktail can ball up at times and cold decking them is far from impossible.

It's easy if you're BigStick ;)...mere mortals prowlin' around the reprod in western wa tend to hang their tags on the garage wall more often than not.

"Luck" is easy to dole in copious amount,for those inclined.

Joe Average is a very dismal barometer of evaluation,for that which is both possible and predictable,for those predisposed to success.

Many overlook that factoid.

I'm no stranger to either luck or success, and generally never counted on one for the other...though I never shook her off when lady luck came callin', I failed to put in the hours required for the bigol' bucks as my obsession drew me to the elk...and I generally took being called lucky with a grain of salt as I know that luck doesn't follow one person as it has followed me.

Elk held my interest for a spell and if they did not vocalize,wear hi-vis coats,run trails,stink and herd...they'd be a challenge.

I dig Dlacktail because they are slippery.

I'll take all the gratis luck I can get,but focus expressly on making my own.

Sometimes the challenge has to come from the style.

Challenge #1 was just getting to where they were.

Challenge#2 was killing the biggest MF'er in the woods.

Challenge#3 was killing them with homemade sh.it

Challenge#4 was getting massive amounts of meat back to the freezer

Never put down elk.....it could piss me off

I never made a road kill on elk, in fact I had a hard time finding able partners that had the inclination to go deep.




















But......I give blacktail their due, amazing beasts and I know they live and die of old age right among us.

I see many of your pics of the SE AK coastal bucks and dandies they are, but they tend to be out........in the open, it's a rare *good* buck that tips over down here in a clearcut.... with the occasional rut exception. cagey brutes.

this bull certainly isn't the biggest, but I think I had to shoo him back a touch so I could draw my bow, still have the chunk of skull where the arrow penetrated into his brain cavity on the first shot, and as he was smoking down the hill I put one where it belonged.



...and it was deep, no easy packs for me.

From my youth, before grey hair and whiskers and discovering that traditional is much, much more rewarding.



I suspect that I'm a bit tired as this one was a bit of a pack, me and brother got it done in a couple of trips from 3 miles and 2500ft up the hill



just making meat.

one of the bonuses of going where most won't (okay, nobody will) is all the cool crap you find.

funny that you mention Mr. Joe as my early years (pre-nintendo) (pre "pong") (pre-color teevee) were spent makeing little bows and arrows and pretending to be Mr. G.I. Joe...guess I grew up kinda slow.

I will wsy that a trip into the saw shop in forks is worth the visit, couple of interesting items in there and all displayed nicely....I like the random irreverent style.

that's funny, i used to go in jed's almost everyday on the way to work when i was logging, but it was always so early in the morning that i never really looked around at anything other than whatever the hell i'd gone in there for.
