What struck me was that Palin didn't seem to know Biden's family story. Anyone who knows what Biden has had to deal with raising his kids wouldn't have blithely made that comment. I mean, you'd think she would have been prepped on that, especially with the whole 'Hockey Mom' line she likes to spout. I follow Politics so I knew about it, but that was an oversight by her handlers for sure. Obviously, they're no better than she is at this whole debate thingy. hank: McCain'ts economic spokesman said whoever wins will have to raise taxes, and considering the Fed has committed about half of it's total reserves to the bailouts, you can rest assured that tax increases are on the horizon. I suppose you'll just have to weigh the benefits of paying our bills now, or burdening our childrens childrens children with the debt, you know, the Republican way.......................

I can honestly say I don't know who I'm going to vote for yet. I'll bet not many if any of you can say that.
I watched tonight's debate even though the Cubs were on (moot point now).
I figured Sarah was going to screw the pooch. I figured Joe would screw the pooch. Turns out they both did great. I haven't seen anybody say it yet but could any of you learn all the chit that she has probably learned in the last month? I mean I read the paper every day. I started doing that in grade school. I'm an internet news junky. I certainly couldn't have done as well as the chick who couldn't manage a Subway.
Quite a few people painted Palin as a dumb ass broad who didn't know her azz from hole in the ground. I think tonight should have changed some people's mind on that. I'm not saying I'm going to vote for that ticket but I was impressed (even with low expectations figured in).
After watching the debate I'm cool with either in the Old Executive Office Building.
However, I do not like either McCain or Obama. Not sure how to vote on that one.
Lastly.....and I know I'm not going to change any of your styles....why do you guys call each other names all the time? I don't think it reflects well on any of you.
Just sayin....

[quote=blue water pro][quote=Dan S.] You're getting towards the bottom of the feces filled bucket of wingnuts that post here. Saying that I wanted Palin to cry in a futile, lame attempt to cover your own ass, one that is obviously lacking in the most basic of human decency is about as low as I've seen anyone go around here.
He has a right to cry at a death. I said I am sorry. I meant it as a joke....the same way everyone joked when Hillary cried. I was concerned about Biden making Palin cry but he was a gentleman...he conducted himself like a gentleman with mutual respect. I would never make fun of someone crying over a death...but I guess I did but I didn't mean that way. NOT AT ALL! His reason was qualified. I AM VERY SORRY.... It was just an ironic comment...I did not intend it personally nor did I intend to make fun. SORRY!!!!!!! Everyone is so quick to judge. I did not mean to make fun of a widower!

We all misspeak from time to time.
Without knowing his family story, it could happen to anyone.

But her response - well, her response was to not even acknowledge that this very authentic, very real man - a candidate with no veneer - had suffered through this and that it still hurt. No, "I'm so sorry for your loss" or any compassion of any kind. Rather, she talked about how she and McCain were mavericks.
It was so blatant and stupid. And I wouldn't have blamed Joe Biden if he had walked across the stage and slapped her. And she surely deserved it.
More importantly, it was at that moment - the very moment when it was time to be a "compassionate conservative," she acted just like the valley girl teenager she speaks like. And it is that immature stupidity is how she lost the debate.

Voters tend to relate to personal stories SD, especially when similar events have been a part of their own lives. For Palin to not even acknowledge the Biden statement was sort of out of character for a human being. and don't call me dude...................... It makes you sound like the 'Valley Boy' to Palin's 'Valley Girl'. Biden has always been respected in the Senate for being a very 'real' person, and what happened to his family was tragic. too bad the talking point machine couldn't think on her own long enough to realize that, she would have scored some major points simply by being human, as opposed to a regurgitating talking point recitation machine.

I doubt she knew what happened to his family, so was at a loss to figure out what he was getting all teary about...and I think you're right. She had a moment there to sound like a human instead of a fembot, and a mom and wife instead of a talking-point-machine, and she missed it...she coulda knocked that one out of the park.
Hank, I'm actually tending to agree with you on her ability to learn to be an executive...but she's far from being able to do it now. Unfortunately for her, I think that the drubbing she and McSame are going to take in November won't exactly be good for her political career.
In the traditional sense of politics, she'll be blamed for the loss. Sure, McSame will be blamed for the bad judgment of picking her, but she'll be blamed for being who she is...a far too inexperienced small town Governor who never should have been tapped, and never should have accepted the tapping.
In a few years...perhaps, so!...but she's far too raw right now, and it might effect her future career.

She easily could have pulled off a big hit right there for sure, one that played right into her whole 'image', as marketed by the GOP. But she stuck to her talking points, marched like a good solidier.
I'd like to see the word cloud from the debate tonight, anyone seen one online yet ?

Grandkids and grankids grandkids will be paying off the national debt regardless if taxes are raised. We've got the Social Security and Medicare nightmare on the way that will make the $700 Billion/Trillion Bailout seem like what you spent on your first date.
What is your suggestion on who will actually pay those tax increases? If it is patriotic for the rich to pay more, does that make those who don't pay more less patriotic?
If the tax rates have to rise, then how is Obama going to give all of those tax breaks to the 95%? By soaking the people that actually pay taxes to begin with? Do you think that the $1000, or whatever amount that was promised, will be invested or saved? I have to think that if I were in the position to be the recipient of one of those checks it would go the same way the stimulus check went. Fishing reels. That's good for businesses but the $250,000 threshold includes those businesses that sell fishing reels. That means that the next time I want to fritter away my $1000 on fishing reels they'll be more expensive to make up for the tax increase.
I'm a free market capitalist. No apologies forthcoming on that point. I feel that less govt. is better and less taxes are better still. You can't have one without the other. Big Govt. costs money and that money comes from you and I.

If she's not VP after this election you can count on her being one of the Senators from AK in the future.

If she's not VP after this election you can count on her being one of the Senators from AK in the future. Actually she's likely to be indicted, the investigation is moving forward, and like all good Republicans, the witnesses are refusing subpoena, she'll wind up scrredfor life. She's like a single A pitcher who gets called up to the big show, and ruins his arm for life.

All fun and games aside, and at the risk of injecting a little realism into this discussion, when looking at the numbers from the projected electoral college she's not going to be the VP, and probably not going to be the VP by a pretty decisive margin.
Again, at the risk of repeating myself, those who didn't pay attention in high school, or college, or didn't actually graduate from one or both, ought to figure out how our electoral system works.
If it works out the way it's aiming, even a 51.5% to 48.5% victory will look like a landslide, electoral college-wise, come November. The way things are shaping up, even a 50.5-49.5 victory will look like a landslide.
I wouldn't at all be surprised to see her elected to some national office in Alaska...but it will take a long, long time for her to gain enough credibility to ever get above junior status.
After all, they already elected a very unqualified person to Governor, and now she's got national name recognition, even if most of it is attached to being woefully unqualified...but she'll also take the blame, wrongly, in my opinion, for McSame getting the shaft in November.
The blame is rightly placed on McSame's "advisers" who never vetted her, and on McSame himself for letting it happen.
Keen conservative commentators aren't calling for her head because they think McSame is going to win...they're already running cover for McSame so he doesn't take the blame when this goes far south over the next month.
They already know he's going to lose, they're just affixing undeserved blame aforehand.
Fish on...

After the election all of the witnesses will testify, she'll be exonnerated and all of that little fiasco will be forgotten. Until she runs for the Senate and her opponent brings it up.
