"losing" has become a way of life for the 49ers over the previous 10 years. I would have thought that Harbaugh would be a little smarter after spending a few years at Stanford. Course he is a Michigan man. He and York can get together and "tweet" how good they are gonna be, bottom line is they will be watching the Red Zone tomorrow while others are still playing.

Harbaugh will be watching the game today and laughing about how he'll use Petey's ineptitude against him when they meet up again. When the Niners go up by 34 and Harbaugh goes for the two point conversion, Petey will wet his panties and try to throw Clipboard at him... rofl

With all of the excitement over the Fawks lately, you probably haven't been paying much attention to what's cookin' in NinerLand; here's a brief synopsis of what's been going on.

The former OC, Mike Johnson (the one who replaced Jimmy Raye when Sing fired him) has packed his bags and is the new OC for UCLA. The former DC, Greg Manusky, is taking his talents to the Chargers. Those positions were going to be filled by Harbaugh people so it's no surprise they're leaving.

Harbaugh is in the process of assembling his coaching staff...he already hired his Assistant Head Coach from Stanford, Greg Roman, who will be the new OC. Plus:

"the 49ers have finally secured Stanford defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to run their 3-4 defense (first reported by Matt Maiocco on CSNBA, and needlessly confirmed by my team sources).

Fangio is a fourth-time NFL defensive coordinator, but he isn't alone in that experience department.

The 49ers have also landed Broncos assistant Ed Donatell to coach their secondary, according to a league source. He was a defensive coordinator in Green Bay (2000-03) and Atlanta (2004-06) and was the secondary coach in Denver's Super Bowl repeat in the 90s.

Consider Donatell the first step, and a major step at that, toward addressing the NFL's 24th-ranked defense.

Donatell walked into Denver last season and turned an overturned roster into the NFL's third-ranked pass defense. His Packers led the NFL in takeaways from 2001-03.

Coaching up the secondary is Donatell's specialty. He's coached the likes of Champ Bailey, Ty Law and Steve Atwater. Look for him to get more out of safety Dashon Goldson and help develop Taylor Mays into starter's material, as well as whatever cornerback the 49ers decide to draft -- and you better believe they're going to draft one up high."

I'll bet you can't wait til next season to see the Niners in action.. grin

They don't have a QB YET. I'm almost positive they won't be snapping the ball to Gore though.. grin

Niners are going to install a WC offense and Lockjaw doesn't have the moxie for that. He's gonna be the Fawks baby anyway.. wink

A couple of possibilities they might look at are Pat Devlin in the draft and maybe Josh Johnson, the backup QB for the Bucs.

Devlin's shorter range passes seem to be bar-none better than any other player that will be coming out this year. He steps in to his passes very well and when the ball is released, it goes kerzactly where it needs to go. His pass has touch when need be, and he can fire it in to small areas when defenders are closing in. He goes through reads very well and on quick routes he gets it there before the defender can even move in. Great mechanics and footwork. Probably the best QB that would fit into the type of offense the Niners will try. He still holds the H.S. passing yardage record for PA and the Niners had pretty good luck with a QB from PA once... thumbs

Harbaugh coached Johnson at USD and in his senior year he threw I think 43 TD's and 1 INT. He's got a rifle arm and good footwork. I don't know if he's available for sure but he might be something the Niners will look into.

Another possibility is Orton as a trade. I doubt he's worth a 2nd round pick but the Niners could offer a 3rd and bump it up to a 2nd if Orton performs. He played pretty well at Denver last season and they're going with Tebow as their starter.

Stay away from Orton, the 9rs would be better off with the Smith sisters . . .

Looks like Sing will be doing what he should have been doing all along. He should never been a HC and this is a good fit for him.

Vikes, Singletary close?

It didn't take long after the Minnesota Vikings' promotion of Leslie Frazier to permanent head coach for the news of the team's interest in former San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary to hit the airwaves. Though the official word has yet to come down regarding Singletary's possible employment with the Vikes, it doesn't appear that it will be much longer.

According to what a source has told Jason La Canfora of NFL.com, the Vikings are expected to ink Singletary to be their new linebackers coach, after previous LB coach Fred Pagac has been promoted to defensive coordinator. A move could happen soon.

The intriguing aspect to this move is whether Singletary's coaching style will be a fit with the returning Vikes, as well as the rest of the coaching staff. Singletary and Frazier were teammates as members of the Chicago Bears from 1981-85.

By definition, linebackers are "beasts" and not "people". They're coached and trained to remove heads; they respond better to abuse and have little interest in people skills.

Sing should do well there... wink

Not for linebackers Chuck...the beastier the better. Make them mean; feed them raw meat and make them sleep with Stretch a couple times a week.
