What a joke!

Down on the Cowlitz yesterday this was the scene, guys on seadoo's "drift" fishing, and this Darwin Award nominee who launched his 21' Trophy Dual outboard offshore rig at blue creek!!

Evidently, this guy was running downriver shooting huge softball size rocks 10+ feet in the air as his 2 Merc outboards dug their own channel, he made it to the first corner down before losing power (and his props and likely lower units) and continuing to smash into the high wall below blue creek.

Update:

Then he float down the skinny side channel to his jet ski. Hooked it up and tried to tow it back up to the launch. Shooting rocks and spinning both props. And he wasn't towed back up stream, he brought his rig down to the property and almost sunk his newer ford diesel trying to pull it out....

End of story, lots of sheriffs, tons of boat damage and a story I won't soon forget.

Holy cow. The guy with the Trophy really should get a trophy for that.

The jet ski idea doesn't sound nearly as bad. Did he catch any?

Didn't see the jetski catch anything. The biggest problem with those guys on seadoo's is they drift without power, so they end up floating into shore anglers feet, or into other boats. You can see he is closing in on the bow of another boat in that picture.

The Jetski thing is oldhat ... even in high school on the Willamette, guys used to troll on Jetskis around Sellwood quite frequently. Typically, when they hooked up, they let the jet ski float and boarded another boat for a net job ... then the boat would run them back to their PWC. Used to see barges trolling as well, but I imagine they were always going way too fast to ever catch anything.

I had heard that the jetski guy was the same person who brought out the trophy, but was not sure and couldn't confirm. I was fishing off the shore at blue creek that day and only saw the trophy launching, didn't know what happened after that. I didn't take the pic of the trophy on the beach, I did take the pic of the jetski though.

Witnessed this on saturday. Couldn't believe our eyes as we sidedrifted past them. Was goin to snap some cell phone pictures but my memory was full. Witnessed a few guys taking pictures of this idiot. Heard from another guy that they even went down the side channel. Humorous for sure, especially watching them try and load it on the trailer. The guy backed the trailer in straight. Absolutely no brains. Dude owns a roofing company in Tacoma. Steeliedrew, what boat were you in?

Man, I'm suprised more people didn't help him. I would have rewarded him for his creativity with the jet ski. I heard one boat tried to tow the jet ski, but couldn't muster up the strength. Says something about the tools in all the sleds..............

Would you risk your life and or boat to rescue him? how about the possibility of the guy getting hurt/killed or his seadoo getting damaged while your towing, you carry insurance to cover that? doubt anyone else does either. Towing on rivers is nothing like a lake or Puget Sound. Just my $.02 worth.

I could be wrong but I don't remember saying anything about warning him at the launch, and neither did you in the post I replied too. I was talking about the towing issue you brought up, next time I'll type slower so as not to confuse you!

At the least, someone should track him down and find out how that trophy handled the riffles.

If Im not mistaken, thats a 2302 Trophy. Yeah, thats a 20 degree deadrise, 4 times better than 5 degrees guys. I also think that used to be something like a $55,000 boat new.

It was a year or two ago I posted that anyone dumb enough to bring a glass v-hull prop boat thru blue creek was asking for it...

...and had at least 2 rednecks tell me I was some newbie that couldn't handle a boat.

I hope that sumbitch was one of those dicks.

PS- Shame on anyone that fishes BC or Barrier Dam.

1 fer 2, slow day for everyone but one boat from what I heard, thank god there was some entertainment. Screw the thread jack, this will be talked about for ever, the guy made himself into a celebrity. He took out both lower units on those mercs and tore the front of his boat up after he lost power and slammed into the wall below the point. All to rescue his buddy on one of his brokedown sea doo's. Brilliant!

Just between the "Trophy Hole" and the boat launch they're hittin' the outfall. Affectionatley known as the "crack pipe" ...oh yeah, and FYI...the parking lot is now known as Methlehem.

BTW a pic of the perp would put this thread over the top!
