Republican wins New York Democratic House seat

In a sharp rebuff to President Barack Obama, Republican Bob Turner won a special House election in New York Tuesday night, giving the GOP a district that Obama had carried with 55 percent in 2008 and which Democrats had held for years.

Even as President Obama's approval rating has plummeted across the nation, it was always sunnier in California. Until now.

For the first time since Obama became president in January 2009, fewer than half (46 percent) of California voters approve of his performance as president - a figure that's dropped eight percentage points in three months, according to a Field Poll survey of attitudes toward Obama released today.

President Obama has hit new lows in the McClatchy-Marist poll on job performance, favorability and his handling of the economy. Compounding the problems for the president, the poll shows a majority of Americans hold a bleak outlook on the nation's unemployment situation.

The McClatchy-Marist poll finds the president's job approval rating at 39 percent among registered voters, while 52 percent disapprove. His grades are lower among independents: 32 percent approve and 57 percent disapprove.

Obama’s favorability ratings are also upside down: 46 percent view him favorably while 48 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him. Forty percent of independents view him favorably, down 10 points since last month.

The president’s score on the economy has also sunk, with just 33 percent approving and 61 disapproving. His grade has slipped nine points among independents in the past month. Now, 69 percent of independent voters disapprove of the way he is handling with the economy.

I don't regard the down graded ratings as any indicator of changed votes.
Akin to kids saying, "I hate you Mama". It's brief and it don't mean much.

Go ahead Hank and revel in Obama's disapproval ratings. Don't mean nothin' unless and until the Repugnants can bring something better to the table. While possible, under the "anything is possible" philosophy, it ain't probable and don't appear to be happenin'. If it's serious leadership you're looking for, you ain't gonna' find it in the political pages of your various sources of drivel.

Equating Obama's poor approval rating with a corresponding high approval for anyone who is not a Democrat is retarded, not to mention stupid...oh, yeah, and wrong, too.

I voted for him, and will vote for him again, and give him about a C- so far...but any of the R's running against him would get G's, or maybe H's...giving them F's would be an insult to failures everywhere.

I'm still waiting for a real candidate. The problem with the GOP is that they can't get their hands out of the cookie jar long enough to put up someone with a rounded background. The O dude is a total joke...no one has any respect for him. He might be a good family man (as far as city boys go), but he sucks as a leader.

It's a two horse race at this moment(Perry/Romney) both would destroy Obummer in a GE. I have not endorsed a canidate yet.

The bad news was the Dems losing a seat in NY they had held since the '20s. The dismal Obummer poll numbers more or less segued into the thread because I sometimes start these things while I'm on my lunch hour or later in the evening and didn't want to start another.

If you'd like me to start a separate "Obama Popularity Slide" thread, I could do that.

I don't see anything worth getting excited about now and doubt that will change in the next year.

We've lowered our standards to the point of having none whatsoever.
