The thought process involved in staying one-up on you is equal to what's required to blink. You equal RantyM in the lobotomized amoeba rating of mental acuity.

Can't be. You'd be doing two things at once...blinking and thinking. Not possible for you and your San Franscico attitude.

Blinking is a Corneal reflex so therefore it's involuntary. With you though, blinking would be done after the tennis ball smacked you in the eye.

You're probably still thinking about your mental acuity description...another week and it might sink in.

Tennis ball? I've heard you San Fran guys spend a lot of time thinking about balls. I guess it's true.

All of your talk about S.F. gays and eating peanuts out of schidt has to make people wonder why you're so preoccupied with those things. Did some event in your childhood cause that or was it nature vs nurture?

I thought I was a genius when I sold Apple at a profit of $50 a share. doh Glad I kept a few shares. grin Also glad I stayed in the market when so many were so sure it was about to tank. It's been a real nice ride. hello

One thing to remember is most market "experts" will tell you its more important to be in when the big surges upward come than to try to get out to miss the downswings. agree

It's been fun reading through this thread to see how totally wrong some of us were.

The facts remain, it's all just a matter of time Dave.
The market continues to be propped up with smoke and mirrors in the form of inaccurate employment reports, the results of QE2 and talk of QE3...& Continued bond auctions at firesale prices. Clock is ticking but who knows when it will stop.
Central banks are propping everything up...Printing and counterfeiting money or borrowing it on this scale to cover losses creates new self-reinforcing feedbacks of risk....At some unpredictable stick/slip point, the accumulated risk will cause the system to implode like a supernova star.

Very similar to what you said about 1,000 points ago. In the meantime many of us have made a ton of money. There are always risks in any market, but the Dow’s overall PE ratio is still historically low. And that is NOT smoke and mirrors.

We could have a crash if any of several very possible things happen. Those include oil at $5.00 a gallon for an extended time, a European collapse, or major war related to Israel, Iran, et al.

Yet American manufacturing is on the upswing. Detroit just came off a great year and is doing well this year. Another big plus for the market is the historically low yield on bonds and CDs many folks aren't too thrilled at investing their money at 1.5% yield.

Sooo, for now I will remain about 30% in stocks. Tell ya what let's each put a hypothetical 100,000 in whatever investments we like and next year at this time the loser buys the winner a beer. I already have my picks ready.

If hypothetical I'd put 100% into stocks with a good portion into small caps which should be the next to take off. If no major event we might see a 20% or more gain in small caps this year.

I hear ya Dave, hindsight is 20/20, but anything I have in the market will remain in a stable value fund. period.

You'd kill me on that bet, but...burp... I like to drink beer so I'll go find some. Say 5?

Any number you want. You can put 100% in one stock, a CD, a mutual fund or any investment you want. Rules are simple one who has most hypothetical money on March 1, 2013 wins that included dividend and dividend reinvestments. You must invest in something that has a know market value on last day or the year. That lets out real estate but not REITs,

I will send you my list on March 1st. Since it's 100% hypothetical and the most I can lose is a beer, I may just pick one high flyer and put it all there. Or . . . this should be fun.
