Oh puhlease...
Of course gas is going to be near $5 a gallon right before a presidential election. Obama is not giving the oil industry their way, so he must go.
What part of that isn't obvious to all of you? If that's the plan, then I will pay the $5 a gallon. And since Aunty is always right, I feel comfortable in saying that gas will be $2 a gallon the week after the election.

Oil on the world market is sold by the barrel in dollars. You have future traders and a bunch of things that jiggle things around but two things are present now. Dollar has devalued due to the massive printing of money by the fed putting one hell of a lot of currency in the world market. Second China & India ( among others ) are using and buying more and OPEC does not increase production with demand.
So gas ain't going back to 2 bucks a gallon. It would be nice to see three but doubt that will happen either.

And why do we allow oil companies to artificially manipulate the price of fuel? Oh ya, they are the job creators. Those that strive to destroy America are from within.

What cracks me up is that the dolts here have wallowed around in some cesspool wingnut website and have come to somehow feel like something exists called 'our' oil, and somehow in their well known altruism and sense of social and economic benevolence that 'our' oil will be extracted and refined by 'our' oil companies and then sold for whatever Newt Gingrich thinks it should be sold for, or somehow building a pipeline to ship tar sands oil to a place where it can be shipped out of the country is going to solve everything.

You are the dumbest motherfucker to hit this board in quite some time, even dumber than Aix Sponsa, and probably equal to Bait Donkey. I find your opinions ill informed, your arguments poorly presented, and your lack of reason and logic are legendary. You show precious little intelligence on a wide variety of topics, and essentially are the laughing stock of this board. Worthless would be an upgrade for you, as to this point you have demonstrated only that there may be some truth to oft touted maxim that Public Schools were a failure during your tenure at them. Most, if not all single celled organisms have greater reasoning powers than you display, and several microbes have beaten you in simple logic exercises. No real attempt can be made by you to rebut or otherwise deny the statements above, as it will simply reinforce the veracity of them to 98 plus percent of the posters here.

It's certainly no panacea,....................
but it wouldn't hurt the cause for $2/gallon gas now would it?

Oil companies know how dependent modernized first world countries (and developing, in the case of India and China who are buying oil like crazy) are on oil. Without it, we'd just about be set back to what civilizations were before we discovered it.
Until we decrease consumption or find viable alternatives to make a significant transition away from fossil fuels, oil companies will continue to have us bent over, buying their oil at just about whatever price they want....

Two dollar gallon gas will NEVER come back. Proven U.S. reserves, if we drill in every park, offshore, wherever, would give us 3-10 years supply. If we could somehow get it all out immediately. Drilling is fine but it will not make a significant difference. And remember the oil that is drilled belongs to the oil companies that drill it. If they can get a $1.00 a barrel more form China than from us, guess where they will sell it.
Any candidate, including Obama, who says they know how to lower gas prices is 100% full of shait.
Alaska oil has gone to Japan, Canadian oil to china. That helps us very little if at all.
Now if you proceed to a war with Iran you remember $5.00 a gallon gas fondly. And the American economy will be in the shitter for a very long time.

Oil surges 1.5% to end at nine-month high SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Crude-oil futures rallied Thursday to end at their highest level since May as a weekly government report showed a smaller-than-expected rise in inventories and the dollar traded lower throughout the day.

Wondering why you posted that. You think we wouldn't have noticed?
