Things are coming together, there is a custom mill in Tacoma called Savara Milling that re-saws and does custom molding work, I spoke with Darwin there this afternoon and he gave me all kinds of good info, says I need to let it air dry for 60 days (I will need to re-sticker and stack as per his instructions) then for .28 centavos per lineal foot he will plane, tongue and groove and make some sort of relief cut on the bottom to prevent warping, I figure that I will need about 1100 square feet of finished product, I am cutting it all to 8" width with various lengths from 8' to 16'.. basically, for less than 500.00 bucks I get to put a new floor in this thing, bonus for you is that it's keeping me off of the rivers so's ya'll, ya'll get a chance to catch one this winter... wink thanks for the positive feedback, it's been said that I am one lucky [Bleeeeep!], I couldn't agree more, will keep you posted. thumbs

Stam,

I've got a planer, but it's a small model and would probably take 2 or 3 passes to get 'em how ya' want them. And edging and bottom relief would all be separate steps, so the milling deal would be way faster and more efficient. Depends how much labor you want to put into those steps.

A.P.,

My way, of course. Carbide blades and bits, except for the chainsaw, natch.

With an 8" green ripped width you can expect to end up with a 7 1/4" net face width so you would need a minimum of 1820 lineal feet of T & G, I would plan on 2000 lineal feet.

Very cool, Stam!
You do realize that all those extra projects cut directly into your fishing time?
Everything's a trade off. I remember when life was simple and I owned very little.......now, too much stuff and no time to use it. smile

Always thought owning one of those would be supper cool and fun. Probably could make a few extra buck when there is nothing else to do and have a sh!t ton of fun doing it! A guy could come up with some cool projects to do with one of those in the back yard!

Thanks for that, Garcia..... my next step was to find out what math to do, then do it.

Salmo, in my usual quest to go overboard, if I did get the tools to plane and cut tongue/groove the lumber, I would wind up so far in the red on this thing that even I couldn't justify it, I'll just pay the man.

Hankster, at your age just getting good wood to work with is a success story.. thumbs ......(grin)

1100 sq ft x 12 inches ==13200 sq inches
13200 divided by your face width, 7.25 inches = 1820 lf

Stam,

How thick are you making the flooring? I've got a floor nailer that runs off the air compressor. Much fun!

Or...

7.25" x 12" = 87 sq in per lineal foot
87 sq in / 144 sq in = .60 sq ft per lineal foot
1100 sq ft / .60 sq ft = 1833 lineal feet

Wouldn't trust it...
Found it on the internet.

You'll find out getting good wood at my age isn't a problem as long as there's a woman that can bring it. wink
