...for fun when not fishing?

I like a nice blend of practicality, functionality and just plain fun.

I saw her and knew I must have her... thank you to No(ask, and ye shall receive)Fish for sending her my way. thumbs all I did was mention that "I'm looking for a WoodMizer sawmill.."

I'm fixing up an old barn that my Grandpa' built in the oldern days and it just seems right to cut some of the 80/90 year old 2nd growth that's on the claim, then mill it down for a new barn floor.... would be a sacrilege to use *common* lumber... (I may even start wearing an ascot when running this thing.)

My Dog and hooktender after a day of bushelin' then skidding the big wood, 32" at the big end, big tree go boom when it hits the ground, I ain't no BigStick, but I shoulda got video of that one thumbs

The WoodMizer..

Getting her all fingered out. beer

16' of fun makes for a good weekend of making sawdust. It makes an amazing board, string straight and perfect width, haven't done the math to see how much I cut but damn, you start busting one of these trees up and it adds up in a hurry.

You won't get this stuff at home depot.

I'm already looking forward to teaching the grandlings to play basketball on their new court... grin

Kinda weird confused that as good as the fishing has been.... I don't miss it all that much..

now, anybody know a good masseuse?

Old barns like that are neat, even more so when your Gramps built it.

I grew up working on a few farms back in Michigan, my ex got the 40 acres, barn amd homestead that was built in 1886. I do miss that place.

Is that Fir that your using for the floor?

Very cool Stamly. Making sawdust ranks high in my book, whether it is from the chainsaw, table saw, chop box, router, or sander; I enjoy it all. I had to remove a nice cedar tree to build my house, so I wanted to use that tree somehow in the new home. I found a guy who has a portable mill, and I worked with him to buzz that tree into a pile of 1 x 6. That gave me an excuse to buy a bench planer. Then I turned a bunch of those boards into paneling for the ceiling of the main room of my house - the entry, kitchen, and living room. Turned out really well.

Today you're getting a new barn floor; tomorrow, who knows what's next?

Yeah, I think of him a bit while puttering away on this smile

Wood is stickered and stacked in the barn now....will let it set until August, need to find a custom mill to do some edge work, possibly plane one side & certainly to tongue and groove. Looking forward to nailing it down.

What do I do for fun when I am not fishing?

It is safe to say nothing as aesthetically pleasing, sentimentally rewarding or as remarkable as you do after reading this story.

I have read and agreed several times that you set a mean example and this solidified that suggestion. Hopefully there will be some project update photos so we can further envy you.
