Bill is a friend of mine. Right now I can't think of a higher compliment I could give him, but if I could I would.

i'm surprised that no one has never created the moniker Bill Herzog to be honest.

back in the early 90s i talked with Zog on the phone a few times and found him to be exactly the same way he is (was) as sportco. he's good people.

over the years i've thought of ways Zog could have messed with guys minds.

for example, claiming the absolute superiority of regular pencil tubing over the black sergical tubing... could you imagine the ignorant hoarding of non-black tubing these days. hey guys! check out the 15' of sergical tubing i just got off ebay!!! $60!!! scored i did!

guys claiming to only buy/use the closedface johnson/centry 201 cause Zog raved it's virtues. this is a gag example of course but likewise sadly true.

i'm sure the Zog is somewhere doing fine.

Between Bill and Tom, they probably had more experience behind that counter than any store in WA. Hard to come by these days.

Had the pleasure of fishing with Bill and Nick in Sol's sled one morning, and my stomach still hurts from laughing the ENTIRE time....really enjoy reading his blogs on NWWC, he is a gifted writer.

One of the very few people I would see hiking in on the upper Queets in the early eighties. That says something. I'm just not sure what.

I always enjoyed the few encounters I had with Bill at Sportco. The guy has a really funny sense of humor plus a wealth of knowledge he is will to share with others.
The article he wrote about ants on the Nisqually in STS was one of the funniest fishing stories I've read.
Good luck to him wherever he lands.
