Don't know what it is now but used to be you cannot fish US and Canadian waters the same day. Fish caught in Canada had to be tagged in a Canadian port then you could bring them over to US side. Sounds like a great way to get both the Coast Guard and Fish cops chasing you. For me the bottom line was....not worth the hassle.

If the US area is closed for Kings, then you cannot bring Canadian kings, or so the regs say.I know a lot of people bring fish back and the debate has been going on for years.
We have been driving across the border and launching in B.C., it is really a shorter boat ride for us in Whatcom County who fish the Canadian waters, especially around Poulier Pass or East Point area. This way we don't have to wonder or look over our shoulder.

I had always heard it was illegal to bring them in by boat whether you have a Canadian license or not.

We have kinda gone on the assumption that if you clear customs, then there is a record of you having been in Canada fishing, that opens another point of contention and having to clear customs, the argument has always been that if you do not put down anchor,go ashore or bunk up w/another boat then you did not need to. Just like passing through ot hovering(fishing) But, officialy, they will tell you that you are required to clear customs. We always do when staying overnight, but seldom do on a day trip to East point/Cabbage,Active etc(unless we intend to go ashore). This if you launch in the States. If you tow across you are ok. You will need to clear customs upon re-entry(if you have cleared Canadian customs upon entry into Canada) when you launch in the States.
