I live in the North Carolina Mtns. and have been a fly fisherman for many years. This year for my 40 th. birthday my loving wife gave me an Orvis TL 108. We are heading to Nova Scotia in late May and then I'm off to Anchorage in June with the Air Force unit I am with. At any rate I understand the frustrations many of you fellow fly fishermen and women are experiencing over build-up and other factors that are influencing your Salmon and Steelhead populations.
Here we are experiencing an influx of people due to the relocation of a Transcendental Meditation Group into our area from Iowa and other areas. This is causing the local Brook Trout population to fall drastically. I've privately been doing counts on my favorite stream for two years, and now it is almost zero except at the headwaters. The TM group owns land on one side of the stream and has illegally built a small dry laid stone dam at the end of the deep pool where the trout go during the hot summer months. I've talked to our game warden, TU rep. and local buildign inspections dept.(all of whom I have good ties with) and nothing has been done.
I am ready to become a trout and salmon activist in support of our past-time not becoming extinct.
Any advice from you folks will be kindly appreciated.
Keep on Fishin', there is never a bad day when your on the stream!
