While I feel that the Indians have dual rights, I believe that we also need to work on the commercial nets..

I have purse seined for herring in the Puget Sound and traweled all around Alaska for various fish. I have seen 300+lb halibut thro, dead king crabs by the ton, and on one very bad occassion, two live tanks (hundreds of thousands of pounds) of dead turbot, thrown back....dead of course.
Not one of these fisheries targeted salmon, but we always managed to get a few in the nets, some were thrown back (dead or alive) but most were kept.

The destruction is massive, not only to the fish and their habitat, but to other sea life like coral and cold water scallops.

The solution? Ban all nets! Every last one!

Farm raised fish will go up in price, but only until they can catch up with the demand and our wild fish will have a fighting chance..
