Just got back from backpacking up the Greenwater River. The water actually was a great level and was dropping. The silt in the lakes were starting to settle and clear out. Usually fishing in the river is tough and mostly small fish. However, fishing the first and largest of the Greenwater Lakes is very good, this is were we camped for 2 days. All but one of our fish were caught off the river mouth. The brookies and cutts hold within 5-20 feet off the mouth on the bottom. Take a beadhead nymph, hare's ear or caddis fly nymph, in size 14-10 and let them get to the bottom. Drift from the edge of the lake along the bottom in the river's current out to 20ft and then strip the fly in with 6 inch pulls. Some trout took the fly on the dead drift others while stripping. The fish here were from 4-14". Some of witch were nice and big.
The first lake is just under a 2 mile hike in and has a few good camp sites. Also at 6 miles there is Lost Lake which is a good hike, moderate difficulty, but the fish are few and very wide spread.
Try the lake and hopefully you can build up your confidence.
