But I doubt it will change in the near term. It would take Constitutional amendment which requires approval of 2/3 of both houses of congress, plus ratification by the states. Too many GOPers benefit from it so they won't be voting for it anytime soon.
There is another path to effectively invalidating the EC when there is a disparity between the Popular vote and the EC. It is the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact and more information is here: https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/written-explanation
The US Constitution does specifically allow States to determine how they choose the Electors for the EC. The Compact needs States with another 74 EC votes in order to enact it.
