I use T-14 for tips and I use Ed Ward style tips (floating section spliced to T-14); with that said the dia. That you use to splice your T-14 should be the same dia. Where you cut your SA (that will be about 13 to 14 feet back from the floating tip).

I have two friends that have that rod and they use Midspeys on theres
