mreynolds, can you please post a photo and tying instructions for the conehead squid? I use a lot of squid patterns for Coho in the salt and am intrigued by your pattern.
One pattern that I have been using a lot lately is the Jim Dandy (aka Snot Dart). It is a gold cone head, cream marabou tail, orange floss body with gold rib and a dubbed orange, red and yellow collar behind the gold cone. It really produces some great strikes. The fly was designed by Jim Kerr of the Port Townsend Angler and there is a picture of the fly in their catalog on the website.
I have to agree with David, if the fish are around they will slam almost any fly that looks like food. If you aren't getting hits or follows, find a new spot to fish. These are nomadic fish and they move around a lot.
