I can say that the hiring process for small businesses is totally [Bleeeeep!] up right now. Usually we post an ad and have a steady stream of folks coming in same day to drop resumes and fill out application. Quality of applicant isn’t always great but we can always sift through people like Quimber to find a solid hire. Currently we get one or two Quimber or worse per week. Friends and family w/ other businesses or are involved in hiring at their work places are having the same experience. I think it’s definitely time to change the unemployment benefits to encourage people to look for work.
Apparently, you're not alone. All hospitality businesses are struggling to find people to fill vacant jobs. For sure, some of it is due to people (especially single moms) dropping out of the workforce altogether, another part of it is ongoing fear of COVID, and then, you have what must be a lot of people bringing in more money not to work than they have ever made working.
I'm pretty sure the Democrats are extending those benefits to force businesses to pay a higher minimum wage, because they know they won't get a Federal mandate for an increase the old-fashioned way (compromise in Congress, which has apparently gone the way of the dodo bird). Of course, businesses will have no choice but to raise prices to cover the higher labor costs, so it will be consumers who pay the freight in the end. I don't personally have a problem with that (I've always believed goods and services should cost whatever allows their purveyors to enjoy a decent, dignified quality of life), but it would cause me (and presumably some others) to eat out even less often than I do now. With or without me, though, there are plenty of people with plenty of money who still won't think twice, and that should keep restaurants and the like going (I hope).
