Brian Thompson was a well paid CEO at United Healthcare. According to the news, which may be fake news for all we know, he allegedly made $10 million personally for using a new AI algorithm to increase the rate of insurance claim denials. I guess all the insurance wonks were raving about how cool this is, to increase company and shareholder profits. Of course, tough beans to the patients (customers) who needlessly suffered or died.

In a perfect world one might expect that insurance companies would take a thoughtful moment and conduct a review of the fairness of their claims processes. But this is corporate Amerika, so the corporate response is to increase security for CEOs and continue denying claims from paying customers.

Definitely murder and vigilante too. And perhaps also justice. I thought this topic might provoke discussion about predatory insurance practices. How many UH customers did Thompson kill using his algorithm? Didn't follow the rule of law, but perhaps justice through extra-legal means?
