Right on Fava! I wonder if it is public information to know who the businesses are that have permits to buy and sell "wild steelhead"? Anyone that cares about wild steelhead preservation should not do business with anyone connected with with distribution or sales of tribal caught steelhead.
I'm willing to compensate the tribes for not catching steelhead to increase sporting opportunity. There could be a mandatory tag you buy ($5-10) for each river where there's tribal participation (to not commercially steelhead fish). Monies collected would go to the tribe that fishes that river. The tribes could make even more money guiding steelhead trips (look at the Quinaults). I will do whatever I can (legally) to make sure the price of steelhead is as low as possible. At some price it won't be worth the tribes time. I'm just wondering what that price is? For now, reducing demand for taking wild steelhead is the name of the game!
