I know what you mean it is quite bad on the rivers close to me also. You may know this but what myself and some other members of this board do is put together a river clean up every two to three months. We get together fish the morning them spent half a day walking the banks with Hefty bags picking up trash. We have gotten the support of some local tackle shops and the hacherys now let us dump the trash in there dumpsters. It did take some doing to get the hacherys to let us do this. It is a good way to get to know some other fishermen also a good way to get to know the river. I also believe that when others see you doing this it makes them aware of there own trash and pick it up. On our last clean up we were glad to find less trash that in the past.
