Tip #1

Anticipate short-term weather changes. Short-term weather changes such as a rain squall, wind storm or even a patch of sunlight on an otherwise overcast day may trigger a bite on the river. If it begins to suddenly pour and most fishers are headed for cover, try fishing through the rain for an additional 10 to 15 minutes. Likewise, if you see a clearing in the sky coming, step away from the fire log and back out into the deluge. Position yourself in the best part of the run vacated by the fair-weather fishers. Usually the first well-presented drift lure or jig will get hammered. Also, if the sun suddenly appears or disappears, don't be afraid to change lures accordingly. I like a large hot pink Corkie with the sparkle finish when the sun suddenly appears. Steelies love this lure especially in high, marginal conditions. Likewise, if you anticipate a cloud blanketing the sun, try tying on a spin-n-glo with black wings or a purple or black jig.
