If you don't have it yet, "The Orvis Guide To Saltwater Fly Fishing(nick curcione) is an excellent book. Bring the beefiest rod you can buy/borrow. Broke my sage 8# at the cork on a "small" tuna. Will replace it with a 10-12# before I go back this winter. If you don't tie flies, start now. Assume you can't buy anything there. Kaufman-streamborn in seattle(web) has best saltwater selection around. Most flies are mostly white maribou/feather with big eyes. 4-6" lefty deceiver good for most fish, large poppers for dorado if they are on top. Anything that looks like a baitfish and is in front of them, they'll chomp. Reel MUST have quality disk drag. Sailfish etc. require, for the most part, an entire hackle neck tied to a hook. If you plan to book a trip to flyfish sailfish/marlin, tie a feather duster to the rod you plan to bring, go out on the windiest day in your yard, and try and throw it at your neighbors car across the street...I'm jealous...hope this helps....
