It all depends on what kind of fishing you're doing. If you're wading a difficult, slippery bottom, bootfoot waders won't provide nearly the security of stockingfoots and a good wading shoe. On the other hand, bootfoot waders with insulated boots will keep you much more comfortable while wading your favorite steelhead stream in the winter. Stockingfoot waders, regardless of what combination of socks, etc. you wear, will never keep your feet as warm as an insulated bootfoot. Match the boot to your needs. I even have a cheap pair of lug-soled bootfoots that I only use when wading the saltwater beaches for cutts and salmon.
