First of all what kind of methods we talkin about? Plugs, spinners, floats & jigs straight mainline is probably alright because your line ain't suffering that much abuse. For regular drift gear its mostly laziness. We did this for awhile on the Hump for big nooks years ago just because we were going thru rigs so fast...none of us could afford to own/pack a second reel. Problem was we were blood knotting on a new pile of Ande about midday when our spools were down to half full....on some days in a couple of hours.
Pack a second reel if you can. Also use the same line for a mainline as you use for leader. If your leader is lighter you only bust your leader. I run either Maxima ultragreen or izorline on my reels and match leader brands to mainline brands.
