DEAFisherman, I've used the 1622 over the course of 4 season while guiding in Alaska, I think it is a great radar but I should also mention that I only used it 5-10 days per season and am by no means an expert with radar units, I think it would serve you're purpose very well. I have also used the Furuno RP110 which is a radar/chartplotter and think the 1622 was a far better machine and much easier to use.
I live in Everett and would be happy to get together with you to help you out though I work full time and have 2 kids under 2 yrs. old so free time is somewhat hard to come by.
One other thing to keep in mind, the boat show is coming up in mid-Jan. you'll save some bucks if you can wait 6 weeks.
