I was listening to the radio on the way home from work, and it appears that our friends from PETA are now in the midst of an anti-fishing campaign.

The name of the campaign is "Fishing Hurts"

They are in the process of trying to ban fishing in Minnesota's State park system. Their comment is that fishing is such a violent activity, that it negates the outdoor experience in a peaceful and tranquil setting that is provided within the park system.

They feel that "impaling" a fish, "tearing" its lips, and ripping it out of its habitat, is subjecting it to unusual cruelty. Most of the trout water in the S.E. part of the state, is in the park system, and Trout Unlimited is in the process of fighting the proposal.

You can only imagine what their thoughts are on Catch and Release fisheries. Selective catch and release fishing is the only trout fishing opportunity in the Southern part of the state from January 1 thru Mid April.

It doesn't impact you now, but I think it is a note worth remembering. While the Catch and Release of Native Steelhead is a cause that we must push for, we must also remember that the catch n kill crowd isn't our only obstacle. It makes it more important than ever to gain as much widespread support form the entire fishing (CNR and CNK) community when trying to make changes. Just soemthing for all of us to think about.
