Talk to Dan at Fishin' Time Charters, 360-642-3727. Like alot of those Westport/Illwaco guys, he's an "retired" commercial fisherman, not afraid to rape & pillage the sea, one of those guys that will tell you "the government" put him out of the pollack trawling business, when in fact they had netted so many pollack there weren't enough left to support the fleet.

Keep in mind every yelloweye or rockfish you catch is probably 30, 40, as much as 70 years old... they are slow-growing, old fish, and just aren't like halibut or salmon. We are fast approaching having bad problems with the yelloweye populations off the coast, I've heard rumors that they may shut the halibut season down early this year if they can prove too many yelloweye have been taken.

If I were you, I'd just target halibut, and be careful about it, and leave the rest of the bottomfish alone.
