H2O, you said they were too small for your split rings, right! You can only bend a siwash once! If you had to open them further to get them around the split ring there lies your problem. Maybe smaller split rings? You can't rebend a siwash like that, regardless of the brand. They are designed to bend shut not bend open and shut.
