Wherever you decide to take your boy, under no circumstances get him closer than 50 yards to the river without a PFD (personal flotation device).

It's been bad enough with all the adult fishermen who have gone down this year, both in rivers and in the salt, but an up-and-coming future fisherman of two years old would be quite a tragedy to lose.

I'd guess the safest way would be to find a seat in a boat where the chances of slipping and falling is greatly reduced, and he'd never be able to get more than five feet from you the whole day. There'd also be a lot more room to fish with a toddler in a boat, compared to standing in line on the river bank.

I hope you find something to work out for you and that you catch a bunch of shad. No better way to start recruiting fishermen than to help little kids catch a few!
