Okay, another thread on hooks.......

I was in GI Joes (Delta Park in Portland) yesterday and they had Gammies that were "Octopus Circle" hooks. They were a smaller version of the circle hooks I've used for halibut in AK. They were almost circular with a curved point. It was the first I've seen them in a size small enough for salmon (4/0).

I know there is one major difference between circle hooks and regular J shaped hooks - you don't "set" the hook. Once you feel the fish take the bait, you just apply even pressure and it will hook itself, usually in the jaw and not the gills, throat, etc. I'm not sure how this would work with salmon but it seems like they should be good for fishing eggs, particularly under a float. I may try them next time I'm fishing eggs for fall Chinook.

Has anyone had any experience with these?
