I am going to let all of you US citizens that buy your Yamaha Outboard Motors in Canada in on the facts. Yamaha Motor Corp., USA and Yamaha Motor Canada, LTD are separate and distinct sub-corporations of Yamaha, Japan. Dealers in the USA can not and are not required to honor warranty repairs for units not sold by Yamaha Motor Corp., USA. Since the unit is from Canada the Serial Number (PID) is not in Yamaha USA’s system, and therefore no warranty claims can be entered against that unit. Outboard motors sold in Canada and those sold in the USA do not always carry identical manufacturing standards. Parts may not be interchangeable and may not comply with USA specifications. Replacement parts lists and service information may not be available to US dealerships. The warranty periods of Canadian and US units are not the same and a Canadian unit cannot be registered in the US. It can only be registered in Canada. If it is not registered in Canada, it is impossible for the Canadian selling dealer to contact the owner should there be a safety recall or a factory modification required on a particular unit. Warranty repairs must be performed by a Canadian dealership. I hope this clears up some of the confusion regarding Yamaha Outboards. Ask yourself, “Is the money you saved in Canada really worth it?”
