I move around until I mark a good sized bait ball with fish stacked up on it and stay with that ball. If after a few passes around the edges and I haven't had a hit, I'll kick the motor in neutral and knock the downrigger ball off the bottom and then engage the motor.
If that little trick doesn't produce, I'll turn the box on "pulse." This usually does the trick.

The pulse mode changes between your natural galvanic reading and the "set" reading. It offers nothing more than a change of pace. However, I have found that it triggers fish on really slow days.
