I agree it would have been nice to have to get OBL when we had him in our sights. However, the CIA and the Pentagon were too busy argueing who would get credit for pulling the trigger to make a timely decision.

On top of that, remember all the grief Clinton got for his successful bombing campaign in Iraq? The campaign that we now know left Saddam virtually weaponless. All the R's were screaming bloody murder and accusing him of trying to divert attention away from his momentary lack of discretion. Can you imagine what they would have said had he killed OBL? Hell, they tried to impeach him for a blowjob, for crissake. What if he actually had someone assasinated without due cause at that time?
