Of course you shouldn't be surprised at my daughter's grad school choice. Berkeley and Yale (her alternate) have two of the best energy and water programs in the country. Her undergrad is in earth science, but she wants to beef it up with hydrology and energy because of her interest in sustainable agriculture.

UC is a big system, and you mostly hear about the odd ball headline grabbers, not the extensive basic science programs that are a major mark of the school. I had a philosophy professor from Berkeley many years ago who ran Yogi Bear for ASB prez and made us quote good Marxist dogma for his social philosophy class. The measure of a school isn't its well-known wack jobs.
