When I bought my boat and trailer last April, I knew going into it that the trailer was going to need some attention. After spending a lot of time getting the boat just the way I like it, it's now time to work on the trailer.
After inspecting the trailer brakes, lines, master cylinder, hubs, etc. It looks like I need to replace everything. I haven't opened the drums up yet, I fear if I do, I'd never get everything put back together due to massive amounts of rust and corrosion.
I've been doing a lot of searching on the web for parts/kits and I'm considering doing it myself. I've seen drums kits as well as stainless disc brake kits for boat trailers. Any opinions on this?
Am I nuts to do this myself or should I take it to a shop? I've gone as far as pricing new trailers, but I'm guessing this would be a cheaper alternative.
