I went down there today to fish for pile perch, only to find that the pier had been damaged in an earthquake during the fall last year. You can still fish from the dock, but the last 60 feet or so (just before the bend, beyond which is the best fishing water) is blocked off with a barricade. I was only there for a few hours, and I got two nibbles and that was it, because I couldn't get to where the reef is. The notice didn't state when the repairs would take place, but I'm sure they'll have it fixed by summer, since it's a fairly popular pier. Still, I wouldn't count on doing much fishing here until then. On a side note, I did see a lot of herring, about 2"-3".
