Does anyone know that skinny on when you need to obtain a registration for a boat? The reason I ask is that I have an 11' Harbercraft Flyfisher that I bought from a dealer. The dealer registered the boat though I've never installed the numbers on it.

I see lots of car-toppers on lakes with no registration. Seems like all the 'big' boats with motors on them have registration numbers on the boat.

A buddy of mine told me you don't need to register a boat (vessel) if you don't operate it on 'navigable waters'. Which he went on to say is waters which are navigated by commercial vessels.

Don't know, that's why I ask...
