If your tip is fraying the line, you must have a crack in the ceramic ring (or chip). Alos, begging my pardon, it does not rot.... It is synthetic and made of the same material as kevlar vests. Might break down after years of ultraviolet light exposure, but not going to rot from mold, etc..... Six years as a guide and I swear by the stuff, although I broke three expensive rods the first day I used it (Fireline) because I was used to mono hooksetting...
