I have often wondered, after reading piece after piece in my Sport Fishing publication, why San Francisco has as good if not a better Chinook Sport fishing season than Puget Sound. One of the big factors, I am told, was that California was able to curtail or outlaw commercial fishing. But I was just reading about the Sacramento River Winter Run Chinook 2001 report and included in this report is the brood stock program. I believe that we in Washington need to assess if we always want to be a second class state when it comes for sport fishing for Chinook. If that's ok, then closing hatcheries is an acceptable solution. NOt in my book!!!
