Use the biggest herring you can get. We opened up the bellies on the big kings and they had huge herring in them. Two herring were 11" and 12". I got my last small king (15 pounds) at 170 feet deep in 270 feet of water with black label herring. After this the fish were 7-10 pound blackmouth. We were getting a lot of fish before around 20 pounds with 30 being the biggest. The ocean was a lot cooler then.
