Tom-- A rip is the "seam" between conflicting currents-- incoming/outgoing, slack/moving, slower/faster and other tidal disturbances (can't think of any more at the moment). Just look for bird activity in a line or patch of choppy water, a cluster or boats, or a number of jumping fish.

Wished I'd been able to fish outside, but the two 11 year olds I had with me were pretty busy chumming in the morning because of the swells. I didn't see anything approaching a king caught off Waadah; however, I imagine it's more because there were too many silvers and humpies than lack of presence. I did mark a lot of fish deep. I also marked so many fish at several points during the day that my sonar wouldn't read below 30 feet. That's a lot of salmon!

Big Salmon reported a 50 lb. king caught by a charter guy seven miles off Tatoosh last Thursday.
