I haven't fished the Kalama in the past two weeks. In late June/early July the lower river had good numbers of summer runs. But with the warm temps, they moved up higher. The last time I fished the Kalama (7/15), the lower river was 63F. That's before the really hot weather hit. I suspect it's closer to 70F now.

If you go, I suggest you hit the canyon for summer runs. The water is considerably cooler up there. Or, you could try the North Fork Lewis. There are plenty of steelhead and the water temp back on July 21 was 49F. The low level releases at Merwin keep the NFL quite chilly during the summer. Lots of summer steelhead at the Golf Course. But it's been difficult to get them to strike. Good luck.
