Westport... Cumulative catches through September 7 total 21,304 chinook and 37,140 coho (45% of the quota).

If I had to guess I would say that if the recreational fishery could only harvest 45% of their quota up to this point, I highly doubt that we could make up the balance with an extended season when there's only realistically a few weeks left before the vast majority of those fish are in their respective rivers, and that's why those "surplus" fish were re-allocated to the troll fishery which is much more effective at harvesting than the sporties have been.

The pre-season forecast for Grays Harbor/Chehalis chinook returns I believe were low and that's why there's no season on them this year. The bulk of the Westport fish are Columbia river fish anyway.
