Hey Todd, I don't know which derby that 4-salt was talking about but the Sky Valley Chapter of TU is having its regular "low key" derby on Saturday, October 11th. You got 2nd and 3rd when we had to target chums a few years ago because fishing for coho was closed so why not give a go at a first place try on coho this year?. Info below:
2003 Sky Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited Fall Salmon Shootout
Our annual Fall Salmon Shootout will be held on Saturday, October 11th. We will be targeting coho again this year. Entry fee is $10.00 for adults. Kids 15 and under can register for free. This year’s contest is open to all, members or non-members. Everyone needs to register with Gary Bee prior to the day of the event. You can pay at the weigh-in or mail it to the Chapter PO Box, but I need to know who is competing by Friday October 10th. Rules are simple: target species is coho; your fish must be legally caught anywhere in the Snohomish River system which includes the Skykomish, Snoqualmie, etc.; if your fishing from a boat, everyone actively fishing in the boat needs to be registered. Prizes are $100.00 for the LARGEST FIN-CLIPPED coho; $50.00 for the largest overall coho, wild or hatchery; $25.00 for second largest. Winning sizes will be determined by weight. Remember the Sky Valley Chapter member with the largest coho gets his/her name on the Annual Fall Salmon Shootout Plaque. Last year it was the venerable Fred (Mr. Fish) Venables. Weigh-in will be from 3:30 - 4:00 PM at the Lewis Street boat launch on the Skykomish. Any questions, contact Gary Bee. 360-794-6378.
