I agree; it's interesting. However, what's the alternative? We removed large wood from river channels and standing timber from river banks before we understood that wood is a major component of aquatic habitat. Restoring large wood to river channels by the hand of man is the most effective way to partially undo some of the severe environmental damage we've done, even tho it doesn't come with a 90 day or 12 month warranty. The alternative action is to wait 100 years or more for large conifer trees to grow along river banks and begin falling in again.

Removing the logs that the flood piles up against bridges is part of the price of human civilization. I just wish that price also included selecting the best of those pieces and putting them back to work by hauling them back upstream to make another run.
